Mustang is a Tibetan kingdom that falls within the boundaries of Nepal nestled in the Himalayas at 13,000 feet. Upper Mustang region lies north of Kagbeni which is north-west part of Nepal and is influenced by Tibetan culture. Upper Mustang is far Nepali's most restricted area in Annapurna region. It was opened for foreigners in 1992 and is located at the Northwestern area of Nepal and the part of Tibetan Plateau. The main places of interest of Mustang trekking are ancient Tibetan villags, rare medieval Buddhist arts, interesting culture and the unique beauty of the Himalayan desert. Upper Mustang area is similar to trekking into Tibet, which geographically is a part of Mustang a land where the soul of man still considered to be as real as feet walks. The land itself is almost treeless, barren landscape with a countryside similar to Tibetan Plateau, but where beauty  and happiness flourishes, inspite of hardship.

The Capital Lo Manthang (3730 m) of the ancient Kingdom of Mustang  was attached to Tibet in the 14th century. The region was annexed by Nepal in 17th century. Since, Mustang region lies in the Tran-Himalayan part of Nepal and Therefore untouched by the outside world or the Chinese cultural revolution, Lo Manthang is truly a medieval town with 14th century monastries still remains active to preserve this magnificient Trans-Himalayan Kingdom. This Trek is little expensive than other in Nepal because of expensive trekking permits. The cost of a permit is 50$ per day.
